Snoring In Every Direction
Snoring in Every Direction
Sitting at my desk late at night I watch the stars flicker in the sky. Enjoying a quiet night, which is all of a sudden interrupted by what
sounds like the rumbling of a locomotive from under my desk. But no, it’s only the sound of my dogs, well, a lot of my dogs. I raise Cavalier King Charles Spaniels; a small breed of dog that has a short muzzle. At times they pile under my desk to sleep and the noise can be deafening. They all cuddle together, all six of them, and the racket begins. Each one snores. No doubt about that. I learned that it is because they constrict the airway by the way they turn their necks to tuck their heads in. To get them to be quiet one has to
straighten their necks out. You have to get them to lie straight thus eliminating the constriction and quieting down their snoring.
Then its time for bed and I enter a room where my partner is just beginning to enjoy a hardy bedtime snack of buttered toast and slices of cheese with a glass of warm milk. I know that that means. Tonight the snoring will be window shatteringly loud. Diary products are a
no/no before going to sleep. I decide that maybe instead I’ll sleep in one of the kid’s rooms.
Entering the room of my teenage daughter, the mouth breather of the family, I hearing the low rumbling snoring she is already doing. I gently wake her up and remind her to put on the chin-up strip that helps her to close her mouth and eliminate her snoring.
Checking on my teenage son, I make sure that he has put on his CPAP, Continuous Positive Air Pressure, for the night. Not surprisingly he forgot again as is obvious by the snoring sounds coming from under his covers. Another gentle wake-up and I help him on with the mask that ensures a continuous flow of air to keep the passageways open and breathing easier. I know he doesn’t like the device, its obvious by how hard it is to get him to wear it each night. But it has had excellent results for him.
I decide to try the guest room instead. On my way there I remember that my parents are visiting and so there is no way I can sleep
Sleep Apnea StatisticsSleep Apnea statistics Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder that occurs when a person is unable to get ..... there. I’m met by my mother who is looking for a quiet place for her to sleep as she just can’t make it through one more night with dad snoring all through it. A typical man, he doesn’t want to use any of the many devices or appliances available on the market to curb his
nightly snore fest.
Mom and I make a cup of warm water and honey for each of our husbands, hoping to curb the noise somewhat. Then back to our rooms to roll them over on their sides, which will also make the noise somewhat less and hope for an undisturbed sleep.
